CELSTEC workshop during HOR conference
![]() | On 9 February 2010 CELSTEC offered a workshop at the Hoger Onderwijs Reeks Jubileum conference in Amersfoort. Theme of the conference was ‘Inspire to learn’ and the CELSTEC workshop aimed to make teachers more capable of dealing with information. |
Goal of workshop
Dr. Saskia Brand, associate professor, and drs. Iwan Wopereis, assistant professor, both working at CELSTEC, a research institute of the Open Universiteit, managed the CELSTEC workshop ‘Get skilled in dealing with information!’. Goal of this workshop was to teach teachers to determine the quality of information they get as a result of an internet search. A critical and watchful attitude is essential when searching and selecting information.
Contents of workshop
During the workshop the participants learned about a five-step plan to search, select, process and present digital information. The participants experienced this step-by-step plan by solving a number of information problems. These are assignments students do during their studies. After a plenary discussion on the assignments and the stepwise information problem solving approach, the participants discussed about guidelines for designing instruction regarding information skill learning in (higher) education.
