Conference on education: Brain & Learning

Lectures
Renate de Groot will focus on the question how the brain developes, especially during puberty. She will present the differences between boys and girls and also go into the fact that a teacher can play an important role in the continuing maturing of the brain during the adolescence.
Els Boshuizen will discuss the fact that there are all kinds of variables that influence the relation between brain and learning: for example environment, heredity, gender and age. And she poses the question what the signification of this is for education.
Brain & learning
The conference Brain & Learning takes place on 25 January 2012 in the Discovery Centrum Continium in Kerkrade. It is organized for teachers in primary education and teachers and students of the teachers academy. Themes of the conference are among others: Brain research and learning, talent development and the highly gifted, the puber brain. Participants can go to workshops on dissecting the brain and juggling. The themes want to inspire and give tips, pieces of information and ideas that are attuned to the daily practice in the class room.
The conference forms part of Project Brain 2012, an initiative of Continium. With this year of the brain, Continium wants to promote knowledge about the brain. Open Universiteit is one of the institutions that joined this initiative.
