Open Universiteit supports OpenCourseWare Consortium
![]() | For the next 5 years the Open Universiteit will support the OpenCourseWare Consortium as 'sustaining member'. This consortium is a worldwide collaboration of more than 200 higher education institutions and associated organizations creating open educational content using a shared modelworldwide collaboration.

The importance of open courseware
'The Open Universiteit makes together with other leaders of the OER-movement a strong statement as to the importance of open courseware', says Stephen Carson, president of the OpenCoursWare Consortium. 'Thanks to the Open Universiteit and the other sustaining members we can continue supporting universities worldwide to publish their learning materials as open educational resource.'
Sustaining members
Apart from the Open Universiteit other 'sustaining members' of the OpenCourseWare Consortium are: China Open Resources for Education (China), Technische Universiteit Delft (Netherlands), Japan OpenCourseWare Consortium (Japan), Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (US), Korea OpenCourseWare Consortium (Korea), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), Tufts University (US), Universia.net (Spain), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), University of California, Irvine (US), University of Michigan (US), en University of the Western Cape (South-Africa). Dozens of other institutions are 'regular' members.
Mission
The mission of the OpenCourseWare Consortium is to advance education and empower people worldwide through sharing opencoursewaredoor of high quality. Up till now about 200 universities in the Consortium have published learning materials of over 13.000 courses, making them freely available through the website of the Consortium.
