Presentation on 10 years of educational research into information skills

He will do this during a conference the program Information Services and Management (IDM) of Haagsche Hogeschool organizes for its students and alumni. Information skills
The Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC) of the Open Universiteit researches the acquiring of information skills. Aim of this research is to formulate guidelines for the design of good, innovative education that facilitates the acquisition of these skills. Iwan Wopereis discusses the research CELSTEC has done the last 10 years but also current and future research. He throws a light on the results of the research and explains the methods and techniques that have been used. He shows examples of education aimed at teaching to search, select and process information. He concludes by inviting the listeners to a discussion of the implications of the research for educational practice.
Other speakers
The program consist of four lectures. Apart from Iwan Wopereis there are three other speakers. Jos van Helvoort (De Haagse Hogeschool, docent IDM) gives a presentation on LIS research in the Netherlands. Erik Duval (Professor hypermedia and databases, Computer science department Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) will talk about Open ICT education and Marijn Koolen (Researcher in the field of information retrieval, at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam) gives a lecture titled Searching in information on cultural heritage.
Iwan Wopereis is assistant professor at the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC) of the Open Universiteit. He is also secretary of the Interuniversity Centre for Educational Research (ICO). At CELSTEC he participates in projects centred on design and research of innovative education. Information skills and ICT are recurring themes in these projects.
