Promotion: Paving the Way for Lifelong Learning
| A lifelong learner has to find his way through an ever increasing numer of available options: courses, programs, workshops, books, discussion fora, video instructions, etc. José Janssen, researcher at CELSTEC, has studied how lifelong learners can be supported to choose those learning paths that fit their own needs and wishes. Friday 17 September 2010 she will defend her PhD thesis titled Paving the Way for Lifelong Learning; facilitating competence development through a learning path specification. |
Recommendation and specification
Janssen has elaborated two different technological solutions. A recommender system was developed and tested in an experimental setting. Results showed use of the system significatnly enhanced effectiveness of learning. Secondly a learning path specification was developed and validated in three successive evaluations. Results described in the PhD thesis show that the proposed approach of the Learning Path Specification and the reference implementation were well received by end-users.
José Janssen defends her PhD thesis Friday 17 September 2010 at 16.00 hours in building Pretoria of the Open Universiteit in Heerlen. Promotor is prof. dr. Rob Koper, co-promotor is dr. Adriana Berlanga (both CELSTEC).
