NEN-commission of standards Learning Technologies
The use of computers in education is actual. Not the computer as word processor or encyclopaedia, but the computer as tool for the learning process. Programs and techniques needed for teaching or education via the computer are referred to as e-Learning. In addition the computer can be used to optimize all kinds of administrative processes that support learning. These both ways of using the computer together are called Learning Technologies.
Standards are of great importance in order to make working with learning technologies succeed. By using standards products of various producers can be connected. This way learning contents produced in different systems can be exchanged. Additionally, meeting (inter)national standards is an indication of quality of a product.
Participation commission of standards
The NEN commission of standards Learning Technologies participates in the making of standards of the international sub commission JTC 1/SC 36 ‘Information Technology for learning, education and training’ and of the European technical commission CEN/TC 353 ‘Information and communication technologies for learning, education and training’. The commission-members jointly define NEN’s position by commenting on the text of the standard and by voting on ratification of standards. The NEN commission of standards can also hand in proposals for the development of an international standard.
