Marcus Specht, Professor for Advanced Learning Technologies and coordinator of the Media lab at CELSTEC, guided the visitors during the tour. Jo van Engelen and Peter Valks were introducted to the main facilities as the Lecture room, Educator studio, and Media lounge in the Media lab and discussed the potential impact of the new technologies on learning and distance education in the context of the Open University.
Demos
Demonstrations and discussions focused around social software for education, mobile and contextual learning, metadata for learning, and open educational resources for supporting new forms of professional development in learning networks.
Innovation
The Media lab was presented as an innovation hub following an open innovation policy to incubate research and development results together with partners into models, implementations, and new solutions for education. “Both gentlemen thought the presentation of the Media lab was well worked out and impressive”, according to Marcus.
