![]() | Milou de Smet, PhD at CELSTEC, is doing research into the effect of the use of an outline tool on the quality of the text students write. Outline tool
To structure a text well, it can be useful to start by making an outline. This is valid for writing proposals, tasks, essays or a research report, but also for making an oral presentation or a summary of a course. An outline is a hierarchic list of text ideas that you make before you start writing.
Study Coach
Most standaard text programmes feature an outlinetool. Milou de Smet has recorded an instruction on how to use such a tool. She demonstrates how to make an electronic text plan, how to organizes text ideas in a list with keywords and how to organize to this list. The tutorial on the use of an Outline Tool (in Dutch) can be found on the Study Coach website of the Open Universiteit.
