The Learning and Information Services department of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) has invited CELSTEC for a joint project on usability of e-learning services.

Distributed
UHI co-ordinates a large number of colleges and training centres in different locations in the northern part of Scotland. Because of its distributed nature UHI greatly relies on its ICT-infrastructure and services layer, but lacks the expertise on usability and user-centred design.
Collaboration plan
Last week, CELSTEC delegates José Janssen, Wolfgang Greller, Jeroen Storm and Wim Westera presented CELSTEC at the LIS Consultation Event in Inverness and elaborated a plan for the co-operation. CELSTEC’s contribution will comprise setting up an institutional methodology framework for collecting and monitoring user data.
A variety of instruments will be developed ranging from online surveys and focused interviews to eye-tracking and associative desirability studies. CELSTEC will also be involved in the user-centred interface design of new e-learning services.
The project is fully funded by UHI supported ERDF subsidies. UHI also sponsors dedicated HD video-conferencing equipment for the CELSTEC lab which will be used as a main communication channel between the partners.
