The general aim of CELSTEC Laboratories is to act successfully as a main driver for innovation in the fields of improved education & training, improved (continuing) professional development and improved learning experiences. The Laboratories work according to an open innovation model in which CELSTEC staff, OUNL Faculty Staff and Partners in the private and public sector work together to explore, co-develop and test innovations.
For this purpose the Laboratories:
- offers an inspirational environment to experience, investigate and create advanced digital learning technologies and media in action;
- explores, realises, demonstrates and promotes new ways of learning and teaching that serve as patterns for 21st century education;
- functions as a knowledge-hub, experimental lab, and expertise broker on behalf of the Open University and its partners;
- provides a playground for the incubation of new ideas. By bringing together researchers and practitioners it contributes to bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Currently the laboratories consist of:
- A Media Lab with different facilities for experiencing education scenarios;
- A Lab for Usability Research;
- A Lab for controlled experiments for cognition & learning networks research;
- An Open Collaborative Work Environment for joint lab work (on site and at a distance).
Interested parties are actively invited to become a partner and participate with us in joint laboratory work on each of these topics (contact marcus.specht@ou.nl).
