Preventing early school drop out is a major issue for the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the Koning Willem 1 College when defining their longer term policy. This complies with the Lisbon agreement which states that early school drop out should have been reduced by 50% by 2010. The major aim for the five participating pre-vocational schools (primary vocational colleges) is to prepare their student as comprehensively as possible.

Product(s):

Concrete results of the project are:
- an integral career development route supported by the new elements: competence meter, orientation programme and guidance model
- 4 meetings with training, workshops, evaluation and feedback sessions concerning decreasing the drop out rate with help of above mentioned elements
- dissemination in the usual way (newsletters, website, webforum ), but also with a solid final publication with advices for a regional approach concerning decreasing the drop out rate.

This project answers to the need of development of a complete master degree program at the point of intersection between information technology and communications. The innovative performance-centred approach has been developed, tested and implemented and our partnership experience returned strong positive results - it has been proven to be more effective than the traditional lecture-practice-test (expository inductive) in training higher order skills, for preparing learners for self-learning, improving and adapting for changing jobs.

Learners increasingly use the Internet as source to find suitable information for their learning needs. This especially applies to informal learning that takes place during daily activities that are related to work and private life. Unfortunately, the Internet is overwhelming which makes it difficult to get an overview and to select the most suitable information.

The relevance of courses for individuals depends to a large extent on the prior knowledge they have. Especially in adult education learners only want to spend time on learning activities which helps them to reach their competence development goals without repetition of things they already know. The process of giving a learner an individual position in the curriculum is called a placement process.

E-xcellence is a webbased instrument focusing on the quality assessment of e-learning in higher education.

Institutions and regulatory bodies of course all have a defined set of processes which provide for the development, monitoring, evaluation and enhancement of HE provision.  E-xcellence offers a supplementary instrument which may be used with these QA processes to allow the consid

Product(s):

E-xcellence offers two tools to assess the e-learning quality:

Quickscan
The Quickscan provides a quick orientation on all relevant aspects of e-learning. The aspects that are assessed are specific to e-learning and are related to categories of:

  • Curriculum design
  • Course design
  • Course delivery
  • Services (student support; staff support)
  • Management (institutional strategies)

Full assessment
The full assessment will enable you to determine the performance of your e-learning programmes and to pinpoint the requirements for further enhancement. It is a self-assessment approach with an on-site visit by an e-learning expert.

These tools are the main products of a two-year project, undertaken under the auspices of EADTU and involving a  pool of experts from 12 European institutions with a stake in e-learning developments.

A Task Force Quality Assurance is established to update the instrument regularly and publish yearly a new version. The Task Force consists of expert representatives from open universities, traditional universities and accreditation bodies in higher education.
